Hi, I'm Ami!

I am a CHRO in Tech, speaker, storyteller, and unapologetic HR misfit. I'm a hands-on, passionate business leader who believes that people are the business. For over 25 years, I’ve helped organizations generate value through their people by leading diverse teams, driving business growth, and building people-first cultures rooted in innovation, transformation, and impact. I’ve led HR strategy across high-growth environments—from non-profits to biotech to tech—always with a focus on authentic leadership, meaningful change, and creating space for others to thrive.

But every CHRO has a backstory—and mine began in 1996 at the NCAA.

What started as “falling into HR” became the foundation for a career built on resilience and reinvention. Seven years, a bachelor's degree, and a lot of grit later, I left collegiate sports for Rolls-Royce—ready to take on the corporate world as a young single mom working full-time while finishing my degree at IU. It was heavy, it was humbling, and it shaped who I am as a leader.

Fast forward 25 years (plus a master’s degree and plenty of life lessons), and today I serve as the Chief Human Resources Officer for an IT Managed Services company headquartered in Indianapolis. I also happen to be a working mom of six, a certified life coach, and someone who believes leadership is less about having all the answers and more about how you show up—especially when things are hard.

Now, I use my voice and experience to equip leaders and HR practitioners to lead with courage, clarity, and compassion. Through keynote speaking, leadership coaching, and HR mentorship, I help organizations elevate their people strategy, transform HR from a policing function into a true business partner, and spark conversations that create lasting impact.

Whether you’re planning a leadership summit, developing your HR team, or looking for a coach to guide your next chapter, I’d love to partner with you to grow, inspire, and reimagine what’s possible.
Misfit
HR Misfit
A person whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others in an uncomfortable or conspicuous way; someone who is not typically accepted because their behavior is strange or unusual.
An HR practitioner whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others; they go against the grain, disrupt "the way we've always done it," and they despise the term "Personnel."
Ami Graves
An HR Misfit who loves exploring the why, pushing boundaries, taking risks, and propelling businesses forward with a people-centered, Golden-Rule approach. With a little humor and a no B.S. attitude sprinkled in.
