Hi, I'm Ami!

I am a CHRO in Tech, speaker, storyteller, and unapologetic HR misfit.  I'm a hands-on, passionate business leader who believes that people are the business. For over 25 years, I’ve helped organizations generate value through their people by leading diverse teams, driving business growth, and building people-first cultures rooted in innovation, transformation, and impact. I’ve led HR strategy across high-growth environments—from non-profits to biotech to tech—always with a focus on authentic leadership, meaningful change, and creating space for others to thrive.

I didn’t set out to build a career in HR—I fell into it. While working full time at the NCAA, I completed my bachelor’s degree at IU, learning firsthand what it meant to balance ambition, responsibility, and resilience. Seven years and a lot of grit later, I left the NCAA for Rolls-Royce, entering the corporate world as a young single mother. It was a humbling season that continues to influence how I lead.

Fast forward 25 years (plus a master’s degree and plenty of life lessons), and today I serve as the Chief Human Resources Officer for an IT Managed Services company headquartered in Indianapolis. I also happen to be a working mom of six, a certified life coach, and someone who believes leadership is less about having all the answers and more about how you show up—especially when things are hard.

Now, I use my voice and experience to equip leaders and HR practitioners to lead with courage, clarity, and compassion and to yap on my podcast, The HR Misfits, about all things HR and leadership. Through keynote speaking, leadership coaching, and HR mentorship, I help organizations elevate their people strategy, transform HR from a policing function into a true business partner, and spark conversations that create lasting impact.

Whether you’re planning a leadership summit, developing your HR team, or looking for a coach to guide your next chapter, I’d love to partner with you to grow, inspire, and reimagine what’s possible.

The HR Misfits Podcast

The HR Misfits was created because the most meaningful conversations in HR rarely happen on stages or in polished playbooks—they happen behind the scenes, in the gray, where real leaders are navigating real people, pressure, and change.

The show originally launched as The People of Work, a series focused on the human stories behind careers and leadership journeys. Over time, it became clear that one voice—and one audience—kept rising to the surface: HR leaders who don’t fit the traditional mold. Leaders who are business-minded and human-centered. Strategic and empathetic. Bold enough to challenge outdated systems while still caring deeply about people. That evolution gave rise to The HR Misfits—with The People of Work now living on as a featured series within the show.

I’ve seen firsthand how HR can either become a barrier or a catalyst, and I created this space to amplify leaders who are choosing the latter.

Hosted by a collective of seasoned HR leaders, The HR Misfits Series on The People of Work dives into the honest, unfiltered side of HR. We lead with heart and backbone—bringing empathy, edge, and real-world experience to conversations where people, power, and progress collide. Alongside fellow HR misfits who are redefining leadership with both strength and humanity, we share real stories, hard-earned lessons, and perspectives shaped by lived experience. Grounded in expertise and fueled by curiosity, this series is for leaders who know there’s more than one right way to lead—and aren’t afraid to explore it. We talk about the hard stuff: power, burnout, bias, growth, failure, reinvention—and how HR can move from a policing function to a true business partner. This podcast isn’t about perfection. It’s about perspective. And it’s for the leaders who know there has to be a better way—and are brave enough to build it.

I am your host - an HR Misfit who loves exploring the why, pushing boundaries, taking risks, and propelling businesses forward with a people-centered, Golden-Rule approach. With a little humor and a no B.S. attitude sprinkled in.  Join me and my fellow HR Misfit co-hosts as we challenge the status quo, center humanity in leadership, and reimagine what HR can become—one honest conversation at a time.
